“Don’t you need to be at the diner?” she asked, not wanting his business to suffer.

“The diner is fine. I have a great staff, and they’ll handle it.”

He was ever-present, his tall, rugged figure moving through the bakery with quiet authority. He helped where he could, carrying trays, greeting customers, and making sure everything ran smoothly. "Hey, you okay?" Rick's voice pulled her from her thoughts. He stood beside her, concern etched in his features.

Hannah forced a smile and nodded. "Yeah, just thought I saw someone I know, but it was nothing.
